 Missions · Paul's Earliest Letter
1 Thessalonians — Pauline Epistles
Πρὸς Θεσσαλονικεῖς Αʹ
5 chapters · Paul's earliest surviving letter — a warm pastoral word to a young church under persecution. The faith-love-hope triad, a model church that echoed the gospel across Macedonia, and the NT's most detailed account of the resurrection at Christ's return.

 Letter Structure

Part I — Ministry Account
The Model Church & Paul's Apostolic Defense
The Thessalonians' faith echoed across Macedonia and Achaia. Paul's apostolic character: like a nursing mother, like a devoted father. Timothy's mission to strengthen them. Paul's prayer for holiness at the Parousia.
Chapters 1 – 3
Part II — Ethical Instruction
Sexual Holiness & Brotherly Love
God's will: sanctification. Avoid sexual immorality. God-taught love increasing for all. The quiet life, working with hands, winning respect of outsiders — eschatological ethics grounded in resurrection hope.
Chapter 4:1–12
Part III — Eschatological Hope
The Dead in Christ & the Day of the Lord
Grieve with hope, not without it. The Parousia sequence: Lord descends, shout, trumpet, dead rise first, living caught up together, ever with the Lord. Children of the light. Eleven final community exhortations. The whole-person sanctification prayer.
Chapter 4:13 — 5:28
