Chapter 1

1Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God, 2which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh, 4who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5through whom we received grace and apostleship, for obedience of faith amongst all the nations, for his name's sake; 6amongst whom you are also called to belong to Jesus Christ; 7to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers, 10requesting, if by any means now at last I may be prospered by the will of God to come to you. 11For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, to the end that you may be established; 12that is, that I with you may be encouraged in you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.

13Now I don't desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit amongst you also, even as amongst the rest of the Gentiles. 14I am debtor both to Greeks and to foreigners, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15So, as much as is in me, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who are in Rome. 16For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. 17For in it is revealed God's righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous shall live by faith."

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19because that which is known of God is revealed in them, for God revealed it to them. 20For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity; that they may be without excuse. 21Because, knowing God, they didn't glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened.

22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and creeping things. 24Therefore God also gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, that their bodies should be dishonoured amongst themselves, 25who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For their women changed the natural function into that which is against nature. 27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural function of the woman, burnt in their lust towards one another, men doing what is inappropriate with men, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 28Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, 30backbiters, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

൮ നിങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്വാസം സർവ്വലോകത്തിലും പ്രസിദ്ധമായിരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ ഞാൻ ആദ്യം തന്നേ എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്നു യേശുക്രിസ്തുമുഖാന്തരം നിങ്ങൾക്കെല്ലാവർക്കും വേണ്ടി സ്തോത്രം ചെയ്യുന്നു. ൯ ഞാൻ ഇടവിടാതെ നിങ്ങളെ ഓർത്തുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവേഷ്ടത്താൽ എപ്പോൾ എങ്കിലും നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവാൻ സാധിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ പ്രാർത്ഥനയിൽ എപ്പോഴും യാചിക്കുന്നു ൧൦ എന്നുള്ളതിന്നു അവന്റെ പുത്രനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സുവിശേഷഘോഷണത്തിൽ ഞാൻ എന്റെ ആത്മാവിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്ന ദൈവം എനിക്കു സാക്ഷി. ൧൧ നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥിരീകരണത്തിന്നായി ആത്മികവരം വല്ലതും നിങ്ങൾക്കു നല്കേണ്ടതിന്നു, ൧൨ അതായതു നിങ്ങൾക്കും എനിക്കും ഒത്തൊരുമിച്ചുള്ള വിശ്വാസത്താൽ നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ എനിക്കും ആശ്വാസം ലഭിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാൻ നിങ്ങളെ കാണ്മാൻ വാഞ്ഛിക്കുന്നു. ൧൩ എന്നാൽ സഹോദരന്മാരേ, എനിക്കു ശേഷം ജാതികളിൽ എന്നപോലെ നിങ്ങളിലും വല്ല ഫലവും ഉണ്ടാകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കൽ വരുവാൻ പലപ്പോഴും ഭാവിച്ചു എങ്കിലും ഇതുവരെ മുടക്കം വന്നു എന്നു നിങ്ങൾ അറിയാതിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു ഞാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. ൧൪ യവനന്മാർക്കും ബർബരന്മാർക്കും ജ്ഞാനികൾക്കും ബുദ്ധിഹീനർക്കും ഞാൻ കടക്കാരൻ ആകുന്നു. ൧൫ അങ്ങനെ റോമയിലുള്ള നിങ്ങളോടും സുവിശേഷം അറിയിപ്പാൻ എന്നാൽ ആവോളം ഞാൻ ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ൧൬ സുവിശേഷത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു എനിക്കു ലജ്ജയില്ല; വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന ഏവന്നും ആദ്യം യെഹൂദന്നും പിന്നെ യവനന്നും അതു രക്ഷെക്കായി ദൈവശക്തിയാകുന്നുവല്ലോ. ൧൭ അതിൽ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നീതി വിശ്വാസം ഹേതുവായും വിശ്വാസത്തിന്നായിക്കൊണ്ടും വെളിപ്പെടുന്നു. "നീതിമാൻ വിശ്വാസത്താൽ ജീവിക്കും" എന്നു എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ.

൧൮ അനീതികൊണ്ടു സത്യത്തെ തടുക്കുന്ന മനുഷ്യരുടെ സകല അഭക്തിക്കും അനീതിക്കും നേരെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കോപം സ്വർഗ്ഗത്തിൽ നിന്നു വെളിപ്പെടുന്നു. ൧൯ ദൈവത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു അറിയാകുന്നതു അവർക്കു വെളിവായിരിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവം അവർക്കു വെളിവാക്കിയല്ലോ. ൨൦ അവന്റെ നിത്യശക്തിയും ദിവ്യത്വവുമായി അവന്റെ അദൃശ്യലക്ഷണങ്ങൾ ലോകസൃഷ്ടിമുതൽ അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളാൽ ബുദ്ധിക്കു തെളിവായി വെളിപ്പെട്ടുവരുന്നു; അവർക്കു പ്രതിവാദമില്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തന്നേ. ൨൧ അവർ ദൈവത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവനെ ദൈവമെന്നു ഓർത്തു മഹത്വീകരിക്കയോ നന്ദി കാണിക്കയോ ചെയ്യാതെ തങ്ങളുടെ നിരൂപണങ്ങളിൽ വ്യർത്ഥരായിത്തീർന്നു, അവരുടെ വിവേകമില്ലാത്ത ഹൃദയം ഇരുണ്ടുപോയി. ൨൨ ജ്ഞാനികൾ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു അവർ മൂഢരായിപ്പോയി; ൨൩ അക്ഷയനായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ തേജസ്സിനെ അവർ ക്ഷയമുള്ള മനുഷ്യൻ, പക്ഷി, നാൽക്കാലി, ഇഴജാതി എന്നിവയുടെ രൂപസാദൃശ്യമായി മാറ്റിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

൨൪ അതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം അവരെ തങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളിലെ മോഹങ്ങളിൽ സ്വന്തശരീരങ്ങളെ തമ്മിൽ തമ്മിൽ അവമാനിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അശുദ്ധിയിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു. ൨൫ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സത്യം അവർ വ്യാജമാക്കി മാറ്റിക്കളഞ്ഞു, സൃഷ്ടിച്ചവനെക്കാൾ സൃഷ്ടിയെ ഭജിച്ചു ആരാധിച്ചു; അവൻ എന്നേക്കും വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവൻ. ആമേൻ.

൨൬ അതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം അവരെ അവമാനരാഗങ്ങളിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവരുടെ സ്ത്രീകൾ സ്വാഭാവികഭോഗത്തെ സ്വഭാവവിരുദ്ധമാക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു. ൨൭ അവ്വണ്ണം പുരുഷന്മാരും സ്വാഭാവികസ്ത്രീഭോഗം വിട്ടു അന്യോന്യം കാമം ജ്വലിച്ചു ആണോടു ആൺ അവലക്ഷണമായതു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. ഇങ്ങനെ അവർ തങ്ങളുടെ വിഭ്രമത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ പ്രതിഫലം തങ്ങളിൽ തന്നേ പ്രാപിച്ചു.

൨൮ ദൈവത്തെ പരിജ്ഞാനത്തിൽ ധരിപ്പാൻ ഇഷ്ടമില്ലാഞ്ഞതിന്നു തക്കവണ്ണം ദൈവം അവരെ ഉചിതമല്ലാത്തതു ചെയ്‌വാൻ നികൃഷ്ടബുദ്ധിയിൽ ഏല്പിച്ചു. ൨൯ അവർ സകല അനീതിയും ദുഷ്ടതയും അത്യാഗ്രഹവും ദുർബ്ബുദ്ധിയും നിറഞ്ഞവർ; അസൂയ, കൊല, പിണക്കം, കപടം, ദുശ്ശീലം എന്നിവ തിങ്ങിയവർ, ൩൦ കുരളക്കാർ, ഏഷണിക്കാർ, ദൈവദ്വേഷികൾ, നിഷ്ഠൂരന്മാർ, ഗർവ്വിഷ്ഠന്മാർ, ആത്മപ്രശംസക്കാർ, പുതുദോഷം സങ്കല്പിക്കുന്നവർ, മാതാപിതാക്കന്മാരെ അനുസരിക്കാത്തവർ, ൩൧ ബുദ്ധിഹീനർ, നിയമലംഘികൾ, വാത്സല്യമില്ലാത്തവർ, കനിവറ്റവർ ൩൨ ഈ വക പ്രവൃത്തിക്കുന്നവർ മരണയോഗ്യർ എന്നുള്ള ദൈവന്യായം അവർ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടും അവയെ പ്രവർത്തിക്ക മാത്രമല്ല പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നവരിൽ പ്രസാദിക്കയുംകൂടെ ചെയ്യുന്നു.

Chapter 2

1Therefore you are without excuse, O man, whoever you are who judge. For in that which you judge another, you condemn yourself. For you who judge practise the same things. 2We know that the judgement of God is according to truth against those who practise such things. 3Do you think this, O man who judges those who practise such things, and do the same, that you will escape the judgement of God? 4Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5But according to your hardness and unrepentant heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath, revelation, and of the righteous judgement of God; 6who "will pay back to everyone according to their works:" 7to those who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, honour, and incorruptibility, eternal life; 8but to those who are self-seeking, and don't obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath and indignation, 9oppression and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

10But glory, honour, and peace go to every man who does good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 11For there is no partiality with God. 12For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13For it isn't the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified 14(for when Gentiles who don't have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves, 15in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts amongst themselves accusing or else excusing them) 16in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ.

17Indeed you bear the name of a Jew, and rest on the law, and glory in God, 18and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies, having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth. 21You therefore who teach another, don't you teach yourself? You who preach that a man shouldn't steal, do you steal? 22You who say a man shouldn't commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? 23You who glory in the law, do you dishonour God by disobeying the law? 24For "the name of God is blasphemed amongst the Gentiles because of you," just as it is written. 25For circumcision indeed profits, if you are a doer of the law, but if you are a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26If therefore the uncircumcised keep the ordinances of the law, won't his uncircumcision be accounted as circumcision? 27Won't the uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the law, judge you, who with the letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law? 28For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh; 29but he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit not in the letter; whose praise is not from men, but from God.
